Description: Jim Cross of Cutchogue, Long Island (an excellent plantsman for those of you who didn’t know him) grew a batch of Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Filicoides’ seed several years ago and came up with some very interesting variations of this variety. The plant that we are growing was given to us by Tom Dilatush who received some of the plants from Jim. This clone is much more heavily branched and compact growing than regular ‘Filicoides’. It is fairly rapid growing and will definitely be in the semidwarf category as opposed to dwarf. The ultimate shape should be that of a globe with fern-like foliage coming from it. I asked Jim to name this for us. He declined to do so but told me I could name it. (1 gallon - 3 years old and 2 gallon - 4 years old)
