Flower: Numerous small white flowers cover the shrub in Spring before the leaves emerge. Very showy.

Foliage: Dark green leaves turn varying shades of yellow and orange in the fall.

Fruit: Round green berries form in late spring and turn red, then purplish black as summer progresses. Berries are sweet and edible.

Habit: Small spreading shrub reaching 3 to 5 feet tall.

Size: 3 to 5 feet tall; forms thickets due to the spread of underground stems.

Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade.

Native Habitat: Newfoundland and Maine south to Virginia

Other Features: Well suited for both the shrub border and wet areas such as stream and pond edges.
