Numerous small white flowers cover the shrub in Spring before the leaves emerge. Very showy.
Dark green leaves turn varying shades of yellow and orange in the fall.
Round green berries form in late spring and turn red, then purplish black as summer progresses. Berries are sweet and edible.
Small spreading shrub reaching 3 to 5 feet tall.
3 to 5 feet tall; forms thickets due to the spread of underground stems.
Full sun to partial shade.
Newfoundland and Maine south to Virginia
Well suited for both the shrub border and wet areas such as stream and pond edges.
