Foliage: Light green leaves darken during the summer before turning yellow, orange and red in the fall.

Fruit: Clusters of samaras hang below the foliage.

Habit: Usually a small, shrubby tree with a short trunk and low branching.

Size: Varies from 10 to 30 feet tall in its native habitat with a spread about the same as its height.

Sun Exposure: Partial shade to full shade. This tree grows naturally as an understory plant.

Native Habitat: Central and Eastern North America from Canada to northern Georgia.
