Flower: Large yellow flowers are very fragrant and quite showy since they open before the leaves appear.

Bloom Time: Early to mid spring

Foliage: Dark green foliage opens while the flowers are blooming.

Fruit: The fruit is rarely produced. When found the red seeds form in a conelike structure.

Habit: The upright pyramidal habit produces a well branched, small tree with early season interest. It will become more oval with age.

Size: Mature size is 20 to 30 feet tall with a spread of up to 20 feet across.

Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade

Native Habitat: None - hybrid

Other Features: This hybrid is a cross between M. acuminata and M. denudata. It was developed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
